desk

St. Francis De Sales School, located in southwest Philadelphia, opened in 1904. Over the years the neighborhood has grown more and more poverty stricken with 50% of today's families living below the poverty level. The parents recognize that improving the lives of their children must include a good education. This year, 505 students attend (K-8), with a waiting list of 57 children.

Every student pays all or part of the tuition. Daily attendance is 96%. Even though the school is a Catholic school, 75% of the children are not Catholic. The students come from 20 different countries and the parents come from 38 different countries. Both the school and the students have received numerous awards.
